Germany and UAE Expand Diplomatic Engagements and Trade Relations in Berlin

    September 11, 2026

BERLIN, GERMANY / RankWire.AI / – The UAE and Germany deepened their diplomatic and economic cooperation during recent high-level discussions in Berlin, culminating in a series of new agreements and strategic initiatives. The meeting, held during President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s state visit to Germany from September 9 to 11, showcased enhanced collaboration across multiple sectors. UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan engaged with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, focusing on strengthening bilateral ties, economic development, and regional security.

UAE Germany talks expand trade and diplomatic ties
Berlin talks put trade, investment, diplomacy and security at the center of UAE-Germany ties.

Discussions between Sheikh Abdullah and Wadephul aimed to reinforce the UAE-Germany strategic alliance, with particular emphasis on Economic cooperation and shared development initiatives. Both ministers also exchanged perspectives on global issues and diplomatic efforts to resolve ongoing crises. Sheikh Abdullah emphasized the longstanding relationship between the two nations and their history of collaboration in political and economic fields.

The Berlin talks coincided with the expansion of formal diplomatic frameworks between the UAE and Germany. During the state visit, Sheikh Mohamed met with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, where they announced a Strategic Dialogue covering security, defense, trade, investment, energy, climate, and technology. The dialogue further encompasses digitalization, transport, cultural exchange, and environmental cooperation, signifying an elevation of their partnership through ongoing governmental engagement.

Economic cooperation broadens within the strategic alliance

The two governments also endorsed plans for establishing a German-UAE Investment Council, part of broader efforts to connect public institutions with private sector entities in both countries. Officials welcomed the revival of the Joint Economic Committee and the outcomes of a bilateral business forum. The recent visit resulted in 29 business agreements and memoranda of understanding valued at over 9.356 billion euros, as outlined in the joint government declaration.

Economic talks extended into energy, artificial intelligence, and digital infrastructure. The joint declaration outlined cooperation in LNG, renewable energy, hydrogen, and energy efficiency, alongside projects for advanced data centers with around one gigawatt of capacity. Additionally, Germany and the UAE identified artificial intelligence and emerging technologies as new areas for bilateral collaboration, along with investment and industrial development.

Focus on diplomacy and regional security persists

During their meeting, Sheikh Abdullah and Wadephul also explored regional and global issues, emphasizing international efforts to promote peace, stability, and security. Their discussions underscored diplomacy and the peaceful management of crises. The German government had previously highlighted Middle East peace and stability as key topics during Sheikh Mohamed’s visit, situating the foreign ministers’ talks within the broader diplomatic agenda in Berlin.

UAE Minister of State Lana Zaki Nusseibeh participated in the discussions between the two foreign ministers, linking foreign policy priorities with economic and developmental initiatives discussed during the state visit. These talks built upon earlier UAE-Germany consultations held in Berlin in 2026, adding new institutional mechanisms to the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership established in 2004, while maintaining a focus on economic cooperation, investment, and diplomacy as core elements of their relationship.
