CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA / RankWire.AI / – Apple has launched the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max featuring significant upgrades in camera technology, battery capacity, and processing capabilities. Both devices incorporate the new A20 Pro chip and a redesigned vapor chamber for consistent performance. Additionally, Apple introduced a smaller Dynamic Island and advanced camera controls tailored for professional users. Preorders open on September 12, with sales beginning on September 18 in over 65 countries and regions.

The most notable camera enhancement is a 48-megapixel Fusion Main camera equipped with a variable aperture. Six internal blades enable the lens to shift between four different aperture settings. Users can manually adjust the aperture, shutter speed, and white balance directly within the Camera app. A histogram is available to display exposure levels while framing a scene. The revamped imaging system introduces new controls for texture and grain in Photographic Styles, and videographers can apply Cinematic effects after recording.
Apple is also rolling out Reference Image for users who need to verify whether a photograph has been altered. This opt-in feature captures signed sensor data when an image is taken in Reference mode. Private Cloud Compute processes this data to generate a reference image that can be compared within the Photos app. Apple intends to add support for the SynthID standard via a software update later this year. Image metadata will also serve as an additional method to identify AI-generated or edited content.
Variable aperture offers greater control for photographers
The A20 Pro chip is fabricated using a 2-nanometer process and features a six-core CPU alongside a seven-core GPU. According to Apple, the GPU performs up to 40% faster than the A19 Pro. The chip also includes a Dual 16-core Neural Engine with 32 cores dedicated to AI processing. A new thermal design positions the processor closer to a larger vapor chamber, enabling the system to sustain up to 40% higher performance compared to the previous generation.
Battery capacity has also been increased, particularly in models that rely solely on eSIM. Apple estimates the iPhone 18 Pro can support up to 36 hours of video playback, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max can last up to 45 hours under the same test. The Pro models can reach 50% charge in approximately 15 minutes with compatible wired accessories. eSIM-only versions will be available in markets including Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, as well as several other countries outside the region.
iOS 27 introduces Siri AI to the new Pro devices
Running on iOS 27, the iPhone 18 Pro series supports the upcoming Apple Intelligence platform. Siri AI enters beta on September 14 for supported devices set to English, with plans to add support for French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish in October. The virtual assistant can analyze information from messages, emails, and photos upon user request. It can also respond to on-screen content and work seamlessly with the Camera app. Apple Intelligence combines on-device processing with Private Cloud Compute to handle supported cloud tasks.
Both models will be available in burgundy, glacier, silver, and black, with storage options ranging from 256GB to 2TB. The starting price for the iPhone 18 Pro is $1,199 in the United States, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max begins at $1,299. Preorders will start at 5 a.m. Pacific Time on September 12, with retail sales beginning on September 18 initially in select markets. An additional 20 countries and regions will receive the iPhone 18 Pro lineup starting September 25.
