EL ALAMEIN, EGYPT / RankWire.AI / – The implementation of a five-year wheat supply deal valued at up to US$500 million marks a significant milestone for Egypt and the UAE. Al Dahra Agriculture Trading will provide imported wheat to Egypt’s General Authority for Supply Commodities as part of this agreement. The financing for these purchases is facilitated through the Abu Dhabi Exports Office. This pact formalizes a framework established in 2023, outlining terms for wheat transactions between Al Dahra and GASC over the next five years.

The contract was signed on Aug. 26, 2026, at the Egyptian Cabinet of Ministers headquarters in El Alamein. Egyptian Supply and Internal Trade Minister Sherif Farouk, acting as GASC chairman, was present at the signing ceremony. Also attending were Khadim Abdullah Al Darei, co-founder and managing director of Al Dahra. The parties did not specify the volume of wheat covered by this agreement, nor did they reveal details such as delivery schedules, shipment origins, yearly purchase targets, or the pricing methods for individual transactions.
This latest arrangement builds upon a financing initiative announced jointly by the UAE and Egypt in August 2023. Under that initiative, ADEX extended US$100 million in revolving credit for wheat and other key commodity imports. The financing was designed for annual renewal over five years, potentially reaching up to US$500 million. The original framework included Egypt’s ministries of finance and international cooperation alongside GASC. The newly signed agreement clarifies how Al Dahra will deliver wheat using this existing financing structure.
Framework Extends into Wheat Supply Operations
As the export-finance arm of Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, ADEX supports purchases linked to UAE exporters. Its 2023 agreement with Egyptian authorities covered wheat and other vital commodities supplied through Al Dahra. This revolving financing arrangement allowed for renewal each year during the five-year period. Rather than establishing a new US$500 million facility, the current pact provides the commercial framework enabling GASC to acquire imported wheat from Al Dahra via the pre-arranged financing through ADEX.
Since 2007, Al Dahra has maintained agricultural operations in Egypt, including farms located in Toshka and East Oweinat. In 2023, the company reported cultivating roughly 28,000 hectares within Egypt and supplying over 180,000 tons of wheat to the Egyptian government in the previous three years. At that time, Al Dahra noted that approximately 85% of its Egyptian farm output entered the local market. The company currently manages an agricultural platform serving more than 40 markets worldwide.
Imported Wheat Purchases Continue to Rely on ADEX Financing
The agreement signed in El Alamein pertains specifically to imported wheat supplied to GASC, while Al Dahra also produces crops within Egypt. In 2023, the company identified itself as Egypt’s largest private-sector producer of wheat and corn. Consequently, this new pact relates to an import channel supported by UAE export financing. GASC retains responsibility for procurement under the arrangement. Neither GASC nor Al Dahra has disclosed the total tonnage of wheat to be delivered over the five-year span.
The program’s total value remains capped at up to US$500 million over five years, as established in 2023. Specific shipment schedules, the countries supplying the wheat, or the pricing formulas for individual purchases have not been made public by either party. As of Aug. 27, 2026, the signed agreement confirms that Al Dahra’s wheat supplies to GASC will operate within the existing ADEX financing framework, marking the operational commencement of this five-year arrangement.
