Global Markets React as US Federal Reserve Hikes Interest Rates, Gold Prices Drop

    September 17, 2026

The decline in gold prices persisted on international commodity exchanges following the U.S. Federal Reserve’s decision to increase benchmark interest rates by a quarter of a percentage point. Spot bullion dipped 1 percent during global trading hours to reach $4,249 per ounce, reflecting increased market pressure driven by tighter monetary policy conditions. Gold prices decline on Federal Reserve rate decision actions as elevated borrowing costs increase the opportunity cost of holding non-yielding precious metals across major financial trading desks.
